Marathon Man

They're calling him "marathon man.” A British runner is going the distance for sick children, attempting to run a marathon a day all the way across America.

He's a man with a mission; Ray Mouncey is trekking across Florida to California in three months, each day running some 26 miles, each stride raising money for terminally ill kids.

Ray Mouncey is pounding the pavement. His goal, to run 95 marathons in 95 days. It's a daunting task for any athlete but it's one Mouncey is determined to accomplish for his terminally ill son and other the children in England.

“He's my inspiration, it's as simple as that. There's thousands of other kids in the same boat, if only one kid benefits at the end of this road that's fine by me,” says Ray.

Mouncey's oldest son, Luke, is battling a degenerative disease that's spreading quickly through his entire body. For Mouncey, the experience has been an awakening- one
That has him going the distance to raise funds for Luke and other children alike.

I've been told my son won't pull through. The idea is to prove all these doubters wrong, which I can do by coming to America and saying look this is the biggest challenge I can find,” Ray says.

Twelve marathons and two pairs of shoes later, Mouncey is holding up to that challenge.

“He's a pretty driven character. I've got no doubts he's going to make it, I just hope he's in one piece after, he's carrying some injuries already,” says Jamie Curtis, a Mouncey supporter.

A snapping ankle and lower back pain plaque Mouncey on each run, but he says the pain is worth the gain; finding a cure for those children in need.

Money raised from Mouncey's journey will go towards the starlight children's foundation in England. If you'd like to more information on how to help, you can log on to www.lonesole.org.uk/
