The U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development is supplying the federal grants.
Thomasville will get $800,000 for a multi-activity program. City officials say the money will go towards housing improvements and attending to drainage problems on some city streets.
Some residents say they're happy to know they won't have to foot the bill on this project.
Alfred McCray said, "I think they should go ahead and pave it, which we need, because when it rains, it's a mess."
There’s no word yet on when the repairs will begin but city engineers have been out surveying different sites.
Other cities in our area receiving grant money include Valdosta, Cairo, and Donalsonville.
