Wednesday, deputies broke up a dog fighting ring on Tallahassee’s Southside. Now, the search is on for the people responsible.
Animal Control seized 14 pit bulls from a home in the 3600 block of Blue Bird Drive on the Southside. After receiving a tip from a neighbor, deputies showed up to find six men in the front yard. One was taken into custody for questioning. The other five took off and are still on the loose.
Many of the dogs are severely mauled.
"These dogs had obviously been used for fighting. There is scarring. Some of the dogs have fresh wounds. One of the dogs was even bleeding when they got there," said Sergeant Chris Chase with the Leon County Sheriff's Department.
Right now, the Animal Control Center is caring for the dogs.
At least one has an infected eye that will take surgery to correct.
Deputies say once the culprits are caught, they will face felony charges.
