It appears Ernesto may spare our region, but that's not stopping the Capital Area Red Cross and Emergency Operations officials from pushing preparedness. The agencies remind you that this is the time to buy hurricane supplies if you haven't already.
The Big Bend area is not in an imminent threat zone and local stores say they're fully stocked. However, stores such as the Home Depot say once that threat comes, stock goes fast.
Store manager Chris Hargus said, "When you're talking about a capacity of normally 200 to 300 customers at any given time to 2,000 at any time, it becomes a very hectic environment and then you do run out of supplies."
The Capital Area Red Cross says more people are prepared than 10 years ago, however, the area is not where it needs to be.
