A little white house is Joanne Lyons' biggest purchase, and she says it wouldn't have been possible without help from the Tallahassee Lending Consortium.
Joanne Lyons said, "They were with me pretty much every step of the way. They directed me, who I needed to talk to, where I needed to go. It would have been very difficult without their help because I would have had to navigate through all that on my own."
For more than a decade, TLC has been helping first time home buyers through education and down payment and closing cost assistance. Now a new agreement with the City of Tallahassee will make the process even easier.
Nicole Everett with the Tallahassee Lending Consortium said, "It enables us to not have to depend on a line of credit and pay interest fees and that sort of thing, but to just move the loans faster to serve the clients in a more timely fashion."
Those that qualify can receive up to a $10,000 loan within city limits and up to $7,500 in the county.
Joanne Lyons said, "I got a house in a really good area, and with their help I was able to have that little extra income that I could purchase the house, so I'm really happy with it."
It’s one more person served and another house sold, and TLC says they will continue rolling out the welcome mat for home buyers in the future.
The Tallahassee Lending Consortium is funded by the City of Tallahassee, Leon County, and 11 local lenders.
