Thursday, county officials held a press conference to talk about the benefits of the proposed tax.

Madison County Hospital has been a pillar in the community, saving countless lives for more than 50 years. Now hospital officials are hoping the community will save them by helping build a brand new hospital with a proposed half-cent sales tax.

Faye Todd said, "It's just important to have good health care. I know we'll never do heart replacement or transplants. We will do what we can do to the very best of our ability and treat what we can."

Thursday, county leaders held a press conference to discuss the benefits of the half-cent tax referendum. Organizers say if voters approve the measure the new facility will be the ideal training ground for students in the medical field.

Nita Fico of the NFCC, Director of Allied Health, said, "We need the state of the art training facility. My thoughts are if we can get that here we can train our students and we can keep our students here, which is a vital to our economy.

An economy that benefits some 200 employees who work at the local hospital.

While continuing to save lives with the latest medical tools. Madison officials say the hospital has an economic impact of more than $52 million in the rural community.

The issue will go before the voters in the general election on November 7.
