More than 400 Madison County residents lost their jobs when Smithfield Packing Plant closed its doors earlier this month.
Since then, the Employment Connection in Madison County has held job fairs to place several of those displaced employees. It's also working with employees to provide training in other fields.
The goal is to make sure all 400-plus employees are either working or in school training for another field.
Employment manager Glenda Branch said, "We're in the process of sending letters to each employee to have them in to the one stop that will be going on this week, next week, and following until we see them and put them into another career."
If you're an employer looking to hire those displaced workers, the agency would like to hear from you. The number is 850-973-9675.
The group is also encouraging all former Smithfield employees to meet with them about training opportunities.
