City Gears Up for Game Day Traffic

9/8/06 - Football fans are gearing up for the first home game of the FSU season while police are preparing game day traffic plans.

The first home game draws thousands of fans to Tallahassee, turning the streets into gridlock. Officers say to expect delays since several downtown streets will be shut down or turned around starting around noon Saturday.

The biggest problem on game day is parking. TPD officers ask that motorists not park on the sidewalks or block driveways, and warn that those who do risk being towed.

Football fans are encouraged to use the Spirit Express, a shuttle service running from the Civic Center to Doak Campbell Stadium. It picks up two hours prior to kick-off. The cost is three dollars per person, and kids under 12 are free. You can park at the Civic Center for six dollars.

One reminder, during the fourth quarter of Saturday's game Pensacola Street will be turned into a one-way eastbound, and Madison Street is limited to shuttle buses only. The Downtown Getdown kicks off the season tonight in downtown Tallahassee beginning at 6 o'clock.
