Homeless Study from FSU

A new study coming out of Florida State University reveals some disturbing numbers about the homeless. The homeless population in Tallahassee appears to be getting younger and experiencing more chronic homelessness.

Mother of four, Brenda Register, knows what its like to be without a home, but thanks to a local program at Bethany Family Apartments, she and her family have a temporary place to stay.

Brenda is not alone; an FSU study has found 703 homeless individuals in Tallahassee, 381 are adults, and a startling 322 are children.

Crook says one purpose of the survey is to help local agencies such as the Homeless Coalition better understand homelessness, and therefore develop more programs.

Unemployment, lack of transportation and affordable housing were the top reasons reported for homelessness.
