A local school recovering from an FCAT fallout now faces another challenge; this time involving the sexual relationship between a teacher and student.
Most parents consider school to be a safe harbor far removed from life's grown up problems, yet the tides turned at FAMU High when a teacher was arrested for having sex with a student.
Thirty-two-year-old Tanya Williams was charged with lewd and lascivious battery after she admitted to having sex with a 15-year-old boy.
This isn't the first time a FAMU high teacher has tainted the school's image, earlier this year a teacher was fired for reportedly copying the FCAT
While school officials scramble to right the ship, you have to wonder how this affects the teen. Child psychotherapist, Dr. Jeff Liang says sometimes the reactions toward the teen can cause additional kinds of trauma.
"The actual experience itself it's not that it's benign because it still have an impact maybe he will avoid his peers and look to older adults," says Dr.Liang.
Dr. Liang says this type of situation may make for a good opportunity to talk to you teens about this sometimes difficult subject, an opportunity lost for this young boy but one gained for parents.
Williams was a visiting teacher to FAMU High on a one year contract that expired June 3. She was released from the Leon County Jail on a $2,500 bond.
