Dealers have until February 10th to sell ATV's and dirt bikes that are suitable for children 12 years old and younger. These are dirt bikes 80cc's and below and ATV's 90cc's and below.

The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act says many of them are coated in paint that has lead content exceeding 600 parts per million.

And time is running out for local dealers to get the products off their showroom floors.

"Absolutely, I am worried about what happens after that time, because we as a dealer, we're not really sure what we're supposed to do with them beside the fact that we know we can't advertise or sell them as of that date," said Brandon Thompson, the general manager for Tallahassee Powersports West.

Dealers cannot carry any new kids' bikes or ATV's until a certificate is provided by each manufacturer that proves they are compliant with the new regulations.

I find it funny that the people deciding that the lead paint on a dirt bike ridden out side can harm a person, and yet these same individuals are part of a time era when their entire house was laced with lead!!! I feel that this is more of a temp for people to try to stop kids enjoy themselves, and that even after the manufacturers fix this issue, they will try some thing else to hold these kids back.
