Moody Air Force Base reported its first airmen missing in action in Kygyzstan earlier this month.
Major Jill Metzger was found alive and well.
She returned safely to Moody Thursday evening.
Hundreds of airmen listened attentively as former prisoners of war shared their heroic stories.
National POW MIA Day was first observed in 1979 and has become a tradition that U.S. troops will proudly carry on.
To those like Major Metzger who were found and reunited it brings hope for those who are still missing.
National POW MIA Day is recognized every third Friday of September.
