Tallahassee's Southern Speed Club and a host of other local teams went "toe-to-toe" in a speed skating competition at Skate World this morning.
Beginning skaters ages five through thirty laced up their
"in-lines" to compete in several division heats.
Some young skaters say they like the rush speed skating gives, while coaches say the sport helps bring out the best in the young athletes- on and off the rink.
" I just like the speed...I like the speed and the adrenaline," says 12-year-old Southern Speed Club racer, Jonathon Cotton.
Southern Speed Club Coach, Nicole Bisping says, "We've had kids that have been on the verge of trouble and they come in and they excel and you see their self esteem change".
Winners from today's tournament will compete in the Speed Skate Regionals, which gives them a chance to get an invitation to the National Competition held in Illinois.
