Local Students Learn Dangers of Drinking and Driving Through Re-enactment
With spring break and prom season upon us, local school and law enforcement officials are trying to save lives. Holmes County authorities are showing high school students the consequences of drinking and driving, and asking them to take the prom pledge promise.

On Wednesday, Holmes County High School Students got a glimpse of the pain one person can inflict while driving under the influence. It was only a re-enactment, but a realistic one.
Within minutes, law enforcement and first-responders arrived on-the-scene. The "good time with friends" resulted in one death, two injuries, and the driver in handcuffs. And authorities say the adult mistake will result in adult punishment.
"In Holmes County, if you get caught for DUI manslaughter and you're the age of 15 and above, you'll be tried as an adult," says Jason French, Florida Highway Patrol Trooper.
Offenders could face a first degree felony, which can carry up to 30 years in prison.
"15 years old, 30 years in prison...that's something to think about," adds French.
If that didn't drive home the lesson for these students, this parent should have.
Penny Dockery's daughter played the role of the student killed in the wreck.
"I really can't explain to you or express to you adequately how that felt seeing her under the sheet like that because it's every parent's worst nightmare," says Penny Dockery, a participant and mother.
The event's organizer said a similar mock crash demonstration before his prom changed his life.
"As a person, as I went to prom, how I made my decisions, also, it had a great impact on me as i made a career choice," says Travis Cook, Bonifay Firefighter.
What about today's event?
"Yes, they're like, 'wow', I'm totally not driving to prom and they're scared to drive now! It makes you think twice. And I think if this stops one person from making the wrong choice to drink and drive, then we've done our job," says Georgia Dockery, a high school student.
Cook says he's working to organize a prom promise mock wreck at every school in Holmes County.
