Florida A&M University students are getting turned away from registering this fall because of failing to pay tuition.
The university used to allow students to enroll even though they had outstanding balances, but not anymore.
"It was our decision to work with students to allow them to find alternate means of financial assistance to pay those obligations so that they go into a new term with no outstanding balances," said James McMillan, special assistant to the president for student financial services.
FAMU accumulated nearly $5 million in debt because of unpaid fees.
