Unconventional Workouts Get the Job Done

Most of us are not as active as we should be, and while there is a national effort to get America in shape, obesity and inactivity is still a big problem.

A study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control shows that 26 percent of Americans are not exercising at all. There's no excuse trainers say, because you don't even need to leave your home to burn calories.

This is Crystal Sams' first day in a gym. It's also her first day on the road to physical fitness.

"I'm going to try and stick with it along with school and taking care of my kids," Crystal says.

The Centers for Disease Control recommends adults get at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity five days a week. But a recent CDC study shows that 55 percent of Americans are not even exercising three days a week.

"I hear, oh we just don't have time I'm too busy blah, blah, blah, that is no excuse," says Susan Stockstill.

No excuse because physical trainers say, you don't need to go to a gym to get fit and you don't have to do it all at one time.

"Vacuuming, you actually feel your heart rate and even dusting sometimes," says Kimberly Hand.

They say daily activities like housework and yard work can be just as effective when it comes to burning calories.

"This day in time with the job and everything, this is about the best source of exercise I get," Ray Herndon says.

Turns out, health experts say, that best source of exercise, is doing a lot of good for the body and yard. There are several other ways to burn those extra calories too. Trainers say it’s as simple as taking the stairs, or going on a quick walk, even marching in place while cooking dinner.
