Agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation say joining with other states has been a big help.

Not only does it help law enforcement keep an eye on registered sex offenders, but it allows citizens to check on people moving in and out of the neighborhood.

Sam Harnevious, a concerned citizen, said, "It's good, I guess, to know that it is in your neighborhood, but really unbelievable that it was that close to home."

Last year at this time Thomas County had some 50 registered sex offenders on the database. Today there are more then 70.
