Key Assistant Leaving Administration

Chief of Staff Kathleen Shanahan is leaving Florida after nearly three years overseeing the governor's day-to-day operation.

Shanahan is a California native and has long indicated she wanted to return either to her homestate, New York or Washington.

She was chief of staff for Vice President Dick Cheney during the 2000 election and joined the governor's staff shortly after his brother, President Bush, was inaugurated in 2001. She worked for former President Bush when he was vice president in the 1980s.

Shanahan replaced Sally Bradshaw, a longtime adviser to the governor and the only other person to serve as Bush's chief of staff since he was elected governor in 1998.
