City leaders in Tallahassee aren't having much success in getting property owners to take better care of their homes
Some 345 letters went out to Capital City property owners, some of whom owe the city big bucks in building code fines.
The city will forgive the fines if the property is brought into code compliance.
But a lot of those letters were returned to the city, which is now trying harder to locate property owners.
Only about 55 home owners have signed up so far for the city's amnesty program, they'd hoped to have three times that many.
Wednesday night, city commissioners approved eliminating fines for some who make the necessary fix-ups but can't afford the fines.
