Just one day after Leon High School conducted a lockdown drill, the school is being criticized for the construction of a ROTC target range on campus.

Neighbors said the training facility should not be built on campus, especially in light of recent school violence nationwide.

ROTC instructors said the facility is a much needed tool for drills, leadership and marksmanship education.

"It's not real weapons. They’re air rifles, better known as pellet guns. It's an enclosed facility that's going to be built that is utilized to shoot indoors and it has traps to catch any pellet that's a bee bee. That's the only thing utilized at the campus," said Anthony Reeves, ROTC Instructor.

Reeves said most gun injuries or deaths are the result of little or no education. He hopes this course will teach students responsibility and accountability.
