The suspected hoax bomb located and destroyed at the former FHP Training Academy on Monday, October 23, 2006 has been determined to be a training aid utilized to teach law enforcement officers in identifying potential explosive devices.
SGT Chris Chase, LCSO spokesman, said, “At the time of the discovery of the device we were concerned for the safety of the community. We acted swiftly to contain and neutralize the device because at the time we believed that we were dealing with a true hazardous situation.”
Members of the Big Bend Regional Bomb Squad utilized a disruptor to destroy the device and render it safe. Detectives investigating the incident then began interviewing subjects to determine the origin of the device.
Through interviews they determined the device was a training tool left by a previous class.
