The writing on the wall looks like billboards are going to have some new requirements in Leon County.
The County commission is considering a proposal that changes numerous regulations on billboards inside Leon County.
At a public hearing Tuesday night at the County Commission Chambers in Tallahassee, area citizens say they want the proposal to have fewer billboards with stricter regulations... while outdoor advertising representatives say they provide a service and jobs for the community.
"I think it's really important to keep billboards at least a thousand feet away from people's front porches, their kitchen tables and their living rooms," says Ann Bidlingmaier who wants stricter regulations on billboards.
But Loyd Childree of Lamar Outdoor Advertising says, "We're just asking to take the existing inventory and be able to upgrade that inventory. the way this ordinance is written, it does not allow that."
Upgrades mean digital billboards that can revolve several ads on one billboard space.
The commission voted to hold a second public hearing and is scheduled to vote on the issue June 9th.
