Florida High Administration is confirming they had to let go of 37 annual contract teachers, out of the entire 117, due to re-organization efforts at the school.

All teachers are between K-12 level.

Administration is currently reorganizing the school from a elementary middle and high school model to a K-5 and 6-12 model; meaning middle school and high school are are combining.

Because this school has never had this type of model so there are a lot of unknown with the teachers required and course associated with it until their master schedule is completed.

"As a teacher I remember getting letters such as this. I knew it was a formality and I knew there was still an opportunity to be a teacher. It's not fun, it's never pleasant and we certainly don't enjoy doing this, " says Florida High Principal Dr. Jonathan Grantham.

The schedule is expected to be finished by July.

They say at that time they will be able to rehire some of the teachers. Teachers will have to reapply to those positions.

The 6-12 model will offer more college prep courses for juniors and seniors.

The course have not yet been determined.

Administration also says they were required to notify the teachers before tomorrow, May 15th, due to a Teacher's Union time requirement.

United Faculty of Florida says this is a normal requirement set to insure teachers have enough time to look for another job before the school year begins.

The school says each teacher was individually informed face-to-face.

Administration says if these positions re-open they will re-hire these staff members.

Students are expected to do a sit in in the courtyard of Florida High Friday at 2 o'clock in the afternoon.

If the school is so bad, send them to their zone public schools. They will love going to Fairview, Rickards, or Apalachee. If the university itself wasn't behind the move, it wouldn't have happened. FSU knew the school was declining, and felt like it needed to make a change.
