A man the FBI calls the "limping bandit" is suspected of robbing nearly 20 banks in the past two years ... two of them in Tallahassee.
This afternoon, the FBI released surveillance photos of the limping bandit in action.
Agents suspect he has robbed at least 19 banks from Lake City to Perry and from Tallahassee to Dothan.
Special Agent Jeff Westcott says they believe he held up the People's First Bank on Capital Circle Northeast in January and the Wachovia Bank on Capital Circle Northeast back in April 2008.
If you recognize the limping bandit or know where the FBI can find him call 850-224-4107.
The official FBI press release follows:
FBI REQUESTS ASSISTANCE IN IDENTIFYING “LIMPING BANDIT"
The FBI is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying and apprehending a man thought to be responsible for at least 19 armed bank robberies over a two-year period in Tallahassee, Perry, and Lake City, Florida, as well as the Dothan, Alabama, area, and several locations in the southern part of South Carolina, according to James Casey, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Jacksonville Division
The subject is described as a white male between the ages of 30 and 50, 5'8" to 6'0" tall, weighing between 190 and 250 pounds and having strawberry blond or red hair.
The subject has freckles and walks with a limp. He has worn a collared shirt, baseball cap, and sunglasses, sometimes putting the sunglasses on the bill of his hat. He has carried a black semi-automatic handgun.
During the robberies in question, the subject entered the bank in a low-key manner and approached the teller counter. He then pulled out a handgun from his waistband or held it underneath his shirt by his waist. He remained quiet and discreet so that most of the other employees weren't aware of the robbery. The suspect then left the bank on foot and may have been headed to a vehicle parked in a nearby parking lot.
The subject is currently featured on the “America’s Most Wanted” Web site at http://www.amw.com/fugitives/case.cfm?id=64237. More photos are available on that site or the FBI’s site at http://www.fbi.gov/wanted/unkn/limpingbandit_flalsc.htm
