U.S. marshals have just wrapped up a week-long nationwide hunt for fugitives, cuffing 216 wanted criminals in north Florida alone.
U.S. marshals, along with local police agencies, announced the arrests at the Federal Courthouse Thursday morning.
Among the fugitives arrested in the Tallahassee area are 33 wanted sex offenders including one on Bicycle Road and another on Sugar Pine Way.
"Any day you can take them off the street is one day they don't have to do what their specialty is," said Tallahassee Police Captain Chris Connell, "and it only takes one really, really bad sex offender to abduct a child as we've seen around the state and around the country. So, if we can get one off the street, that's one less that has the opportunity and that goes the same with burglars and robbers."
Operation Falcon 3, as this roundup was called, focused on sex offenders and gang members. It resulted in more than 10,000 arrests nationwide.
