Agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation say 43-year-old Willie Bancks was shot around 8 o'clock Thursday night.
Three officers were attempting to arrest Bancks when he pulled a knife.
Agents say all three officers drew their weapons, one firing several shots which ultimately killed Bancks.
Aldean Roberts, the victim's cousin, commented on the shooting, "I still don't understand how it could happen to him, how it happened, it, it seems ridiculous."
Moultrie Police Chief Frank Lang says this is the first officer shooting in the two and a half years he's been on the force.
The three officers involved are on paid administrative leave.
