When they aren't battling blazes, Valdosta firefighters are picking up wrenches for a good cause. They're fixing up old bicycles for their annual bike program for needy children.
More than 100 children in need have been selected to receive a bike for Christmas.
The Fire Department is accepting donations of old and new bikes during the next month.
"When a kid comes in, their facial expression lets you know you've done something that's worthwhile. A lot of these kids don't have presents for Christmas, so this will be their only Christmas gift," said SGT Leslie Brogdon.
"A lot of guys, especially me, you know are from Valdosta and raised here, so it's a really a good thing to be able to do this work and give back to the community," added firefighter Wade Briggs.
The Fire Department still needs at least 40 bikes by Christmas, and they're urging the public to donate.
