The Taylor County Animal Shelter says the number of hunting dogs is double this time of year. Therefore, hunters are urged to put collars with ID tags on their dogs.
Tom Reed, a hunter and dog owner, said, "I'm glad I have dog tags because my dog here ran off one time and she got lost and somebody found her. I got a phone call the same day and got my dog back the same day."
Carrie Tucker with the Taylor County Animal Shelter said, "Dogs run, they get out of the area that they've hunted in. They run loose, they get to the highways. Many, many citizens will stop and pick them up because they think it's a stray dog and bring them in to us."
Animal Control officers say if you already have an ID tag on your dog, make sure the information is up-to-date.
