President Bush yesterday ordered disaster assistance to state and local governments to increase from 75% to 90% of eligible costs for public assistance projects such as debris removal.

The order is retroactive to the date of the president's major disaster declaration for Florida, issued October 24, 2005.

Wilma caused an estimated 6.1 billion dollars in insured losses and was blamed for 35 deaths in Florida. More than 6 million people lost power in the state.
