Memorial Service: Robert Wise

Tuesday was a tribute to a wonderful friend, son, brother, fiance, and dedicated solider. SPC Robert Wise was the kind of guy, that if you didn't have the opportunity to know him, you wished you had.

"I can tell you all, I always knew my son was a great person. I just didn't know everyone else knew it too,” says Tammy Wise.

It was standing room only at the National Guard Armory Tuesday night as hundreds gathered to mourn the loss of a fallen hero, 21-year-old SPC Robert Allen Wise.

“Robert was the kind of soldier I'd like for all soldiers to be. He was dedicated to serve, defend and sacrifice for the freedoms we know and hold dear."

Robert's friends and family spoke of a young man that was full of life and had a heart of solid gold.

"Robert's a friend you'd want for life. He just wanted to know you. I still can't believe he's gone.”

"Tammy and I have lost something very special but we both take comfort knowing that he would do it again if he knew that it would keep us safe,” says Robert’s father.

"My pride in him knows no bounds, I love you Robert Wise, "just in case" and I miss you and you will be in my heart forever,” says Tammy Wise.

After Tuesday night’s service we talked with his fiance Jennie and asked her what she wanted everyone to remember about her love, and she said that he believed in what he was doing for his country.

Robert was honored with the Purple Heart, the Florida Cross and the Bronze Star Medal. Wise will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery next week.

The Armory is accepting donations to pay for the family's trip there. Tuesday morning a man dropped by and handed over $1,000 cash. He didn't want to leave his name. He said he just wanted to make sure the family would make it there.
