Tallahassee's DeSoto Trail and Bond Elementary participated in a competition to see who could recycle the most phone books.

DeSoto students recycled 4,800 books, earning a grant for $1,500.

But, Bond Elementary came out on top, getting a check for $3,500 for recycling 5,400 books.

The money was awarded through R.H. Donnelley, the printer of Embark phone books.

Combined both schools saved about 440 trees.
