Right now, Iowa and New Hampshire voters have the first word in the nomination process. Floridians don't weigh in until March.
Lawmakers say they want to move Florida’s Primary to late January or early February, just days after the New Hampshire Primary.
Rep. Pat Patterson, (R) Deland, FL said, "The makeup of South Florida, Central Florida and North Florida is very representative of the people in the United States and I think that would give a good indication to anybody running of whether they wanted to stay in or get out of the presidential race."
Lawmakers have only talked about moving the Primary before, but Patterson says things are different this year because they’re ready to take action.
