A Valdosta police officer resigned from his job Wednesday, and then moments later was arrested on domestic violence charges.
Ray Whitfield, a former narcotics detective, was taken to the Lowndes County Jail. He'd been under investigation following a domestic violence incident that occurred back on November 22.
Valdosta police say no one, not even a fellow officer, is above the law.
"We're sad we lost one of our detectives today, absolutely we are. Its just like anything else, and we've said time and time again, if one of our officers do something wrong, we're going to take a look at it internally, and if its a criminal violation, we're going to pursue that too," said Lt. Brian Childers, VLD Police.
With felony and misdemeanors, and investigators say more charges could be filed by the district attorney.
