Longtime executive director Fred Dickinson resigned this week after he was told Gov. Crist wanted a change at the top.
Dickinson has been with the department since 1985 and executive director since 1992.
He oversaw the department’s massive change in drivers’ licenses in the wake of terrorist concerns in 2001.
Dickinson remains on the job through March 6.
