Area residents are taking brave steps in the fight against alcohol and drug addiction, and they're supporting each other along the way.

The French Town Outreach Center hosted an alcohol and drug recovery symposium at the Leon County Health Department today.

About sixty people came to learn about substance abuse and hear success stories from those who have recovered.

Members of the outreach center say drug and alcohol addiction is treatable no matter how long the problem has existed.

Today's symposium was part of a weekend of events recognizing National Recovery Month.

I am now a full blown alcoholic because I can not smoke Marijuana. I live many days without sleep and I only wish that Marijuana be legalized. Alcohol is the worst drug available to the world, and I wish that Congress would vote to legalize Marijuana!!!!!!!!!!! What harm does Marijuana cause, besides wasting tax dollars, by putting people in jail!! It is time to stop this and allow good and innocent people's lives who engage in Marijuana usage to have normal lives!!!!!!!!
