A panel studying the use of lethal injection says Florida needs formal protocol for executions and should spend more time training teams to carry out death sentences.
The group also said it is essential that the warden make sure inmates are unconscious before being injected with the drugs that will kill them.
Gov. Charlie Crist says he expects to resume executions soon.
“You know, I’m in favor of the death penalty. I’ve been on record favoring it. I think that within a reasonable period of time after having a chance to review and have our general counsel review their recommendations that we can move forward."
Executions have been on hold in Florida since the execution of Angel Diaz in December. It took 34 minutes and a double dose of chemicals to kill the death row inmate.
