The 62nd annual Ham and Egg show was held at the Lowndes Civic Center. Therus Brown came in first for the egg competition. Velma Miles came in first place for the ham category taking the Grand Champion title.

Velma almost didn't make the awards. She said "I had to leave for a minute but unfortunately I left right at the wrong time when one of the gentleman called and said that one of my hams had won the Grand Champion. I was so excited I drove the 13 miles back to re-look at it with the ribbon sitting on top."

47 different kinds of ham and 45 different eggs were judged in the competition. The food was then auctioned off.

The Grand Champion eggs sold for $250. The first place ham sold for just under $400. It weighed 17 pounds. It takes about 120 days to cure a ham.
