Across America, cities and states are launching movements to solve what some say is one of our country's most pressing problem: global warming.
Florida Gov. Charlie Crist pledged to place Florida at the forefront of this movement. Former Vice President Al Gore has been spreading his message about global warming around the country, and so far his message is resonating all the way to Florida's Capitol.
Gov. Charlie Crist is pledging to reduce greenhouse gases in Florida through the development of alternative energy sources.
Gov. Charlie Crist said, "Some of the initial things I want to do are things that would lead to us having less carbon dioxide emissions rather than construction issues. I am concerned about the climate change."
Experts say dire environmental consequences will result if changes aren't made to reduce the greenhouse gases that humans release into the air. They say global warming and climate cooling are already having an effect worldwide.
James O'Brien said, "Here in Florida the big variability we have is El Nino and La Nina. That's why we didn't have hurricanes last year, because we had El Nino, so I guess we're regionally different from other parts of the world, but I think it's still important very important to know the conservation issue."
Gov. Crist would like to implement mandates similar to California's. In the meantime, he's hoping the public will take steps in helping mother nature restore its once pristine areas.
Crist is the first Florida governor to talk extensively about global climate change in a State of the State Address.
