According to a preliminary schedule unveiled Tuesday, the MEAC team is still somewhat in a league of its own. The announcement of the NCAA's approval of FAMU's re-entry as a Division I-AA team in the MEAV came as a sigh of relief, but talk of this fall's tentative schedule didn't have much of a MEAC ring to it.
Gainous says the only conference game will be against Bethune Cookman College because other MEAC teams were already booked.
Despite some shocked and disgruntled FAMU supporters, athletic staff say the provisional schedule is a great accomplishment considering they've only had one month to work on it.
“We're going to be playing four Division I-A teams, it’s going to be a competitive schedule going to a lot of nice places, bringing teams to our campus that have not been in a while,” says Jonathan Evans, FAMU Interim Associate Athletic Director
Rattler fans make sure your home in the month of October as all of the home games are currently scheduled during the 10th month. Other teams on the tentative schedule are Virginia Tech, North Carolina Central and Virginia Union.
FAMU leaders say they expect to release an official schedule at their next board meeting April 13. Tuesday on Eyewitness Sports at Six, Lee Gordon will tell you what some Division 1-A schools have to say about FAMU's schedule.
