Leon County Looking to Buy Out Flood Prone Property

Some particular residents have their names on a list for their homes to be acquired by the county.

That's because the properties are located in flood plains all over the county, and the owners can't combat the water.

Tuesday night the county voted to sell some property, to help raise funds to purchased the flooded out houses.

While some are getting impatient with the county, others say they're satisfied.

"There really is a need to buy back some properties, in my area and all over the county. I am satisfied with that. I believe there are steps to avoid this in the future,” comments Brad Troutman, Killearn Lakes Homeowner’s Association.

The criteria for acquisition was how often the home floods, if water comes in the house and whether there is structural damage, and finally, if someone with a disability lives in the house.
