FAMU's School of Journalism hosted a panel discussion at the Hotel Duval which featured five nationally known journalists from CBS News.
Randall Pinkston, Russ Mitchell, Bill Whitaker, Byron Pitts, and Harold Dow spoke about their careers in journalism at the panel discussion, titled "CBS Journalists and their Journey."

Russ Mitchell, anchor of the CBS Early Show and Evening News Saturday Edition had this advice to journalism students: "Have that thick skin. Be determined. Just keep going. If you work hard and luck smiles in your face, you'll do well."

"Our profession needs young people," said Byron Pitts, Chief National Correspondent for CBS News. "It's time for a new generation."

Kim Godwin, a senior producer for the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric who graduated from FAMU, was also in attendance.

The event was invitation only.

I also like Russ Mitchell and felt he deserved the CBS Evening News anchor job over Katie Couric. If he had gotten the job, I'm sure their ratings wouldn't be as bad as they are now.

CBS needs "new generation" all right. I am not a big fan of CBS news anymore. Russ Mitchell I like because he has proven to be more "neutral" in presenting his news. Can't say much about the rest of them.
