A Tallahassee man is accused of beating up his mother and setting her house on fire. It happened on Berklie Drive Monday night.
Deputies say 31-year-old Jeremy Cargile severely beat his mother during an argument, then poured gasoline in the house and set it on fire with a match. The brick exterior shows some scorch marks, but firefighters say the inside is gutted with damages topping $70,000.
"According to reports, he wanted to show his mother how it felt to be homeless," said Leon County Sheriff's Office spokesman Chris Chase.
Family members say Cargile is schizophrenic. Arrest papers say he told deputies he was angry because his mother keeps institutionalizing him. Now Cargile is in the Leon County Jail facing arson and domestic battery charges.
