Tallahassee's Downtown Getdown

Thousands gathered for a night of good food, live music and games for the kids. You could hear the music, smell the food and tell that there was something going on in downtown Tallahassee.

The festival known as the Downtown Getdown set the stage for Saturday's Springtime Tallahassee parade.

Susie Hall of the United Way of the Big Bend, said, "Springtime Tallahassee has been waiting to turn their event into a two-day event and they came to us and said, would you guys throw a party for us?"

And what a party it was.

Sharese Bleechington said, "We're having an awesome time. It's been great. We seen dancers and cloggers. We're having a great, great time."

Pete Lowhorne added, "We just got through painting the door project. Now, we're going down to listen to some blues and thought we'd come up here and check something else out."

Whether you wanted test your skills at rock climbing or get your face painted, there was something for everyone. There was even a special appearance by Florida A&M's drumline.

Erica Gardner said, "It was a good night, the festivities are really good. It's good to have something going on downtown."

Proceeds from the Downtown Getdown will benefit the United Way of the Big Bend.
