Although the weather in our area has been unseasonably warm, local organizations are planning now for the colder winter months ahead.
On Monday November 2nd the Southwest Georgia Community Action Council in Thomasville will start accepting calls from residents who need help covering heating costs this winter.
Residents who are sixty-five or older and live on a fixed income will get top priority in the the application process.
Officials say every year the program helps about one thousand Thomasville residents.
Office manager Bridgett Smith says, "With the downturn in the economy, that number may increase for this winter. We understand during the winter months the elderly have a tendency to have more difficulty heating their homes. We will be there to help support the people in our community."
After residents call to have their names added to the list, a representative from the office will set up an interview to begin the application process. For more information call Southwest Georgia Community Action Council 229.228.1162.
