The following statement was provided by Jackie Pons, Superintendent of Leon County Schools :
Parents and School Communities:
This message is intended to communicate, at a high level, recent information that the community should be aware of.
In the past 48 hours there have been reports of suspicious incidents involving individual(s) in vehicles approaching children and attempting to offer rides.
Each of these reports are being investigated by law enforcement and have been reported to the media. No information has been received to tie these events together.
Please talk to your children about the importance of the following safety tips:
-Be aware of your surroundings
-Always attempt to travel with friends or in numbers
-Do not approach an unfamiliar vehicle or person
-Immediately report suspicious incidents and/or person(s) to a known adult
Remember, if possible, adult supervision is best. Thank you for your support in keeping our children safe. Safety is the #1 priority of Leon County Schools.
Thank you,
Jackie Pons, Superintendent

Thank you Jackie Pons. It is good to see a School Official getting involved. We all get complacent. We all forget about the constant threats that endanger our children. There are people out there riding the streets just waiting for the opportunity to abduct a child. It is imperative that all parents realize this & sit down with their children every night if need be to REMIND THEM of the dangers. It is not just the bus drivers, teachers, law enforcement or others that have that responsibility. The urgency of safety begins at home.
My kids are teenagers and I still worry about them walking to and from the bus stops and make them call me at every step (when they get on the bus, when they get off, etc). You can't be too careful these days.
You shouldn't have to be told to keep your children safe.If you didn't already know that, then you shouldn't have them to begin with.
