Tropical Storm Ida continues to stay alive, BUT experts say there is a very small chance of it hitting the United States.
Just 4 hurricanes have hit the United States in the month of November since 1900, all of which were a category 1 hurricane. Meteorologists say it is rare to have hurricanes this time of year, in part due to slightly cooler water temperatures. The last hurricane to hit the U.S. in November was Hurricane Kate back in 1985.
James O'Brien, a Meteorology and Oceanography Professor says, "We could still have one but there is a very small probability or chance that we'll have a hurricane in November, in any place much less Tallahassee."
O'Brien says there has never been a hurricane to hit the United States in November during an El Nino year. Hurricane season ends November 30th, but you should always be prepared.
