Mental Health Counseling at Moody
The Fort Hood shootings bring an important issue to the forefront. How are military health professionals monitored and supported?

At Moody Air Force Base there are just seven health providers who evaluate and treat soldiers who experience combat stress.
These counselors primarily rely on one another for constant support and guidance.
Other than a yearly performance evaluation by their supervisor, there's little oversight.
So, what's called a "tweakly" has been developed at Moody.
"It's a period of about 15 or 20 minutes, two times a week, where we all get together just to talk about what's going on in the office," said Major John Bowers, a behavioral health provider at Moody Air Force Base. "Any particular concerns or stressors."
There's also the designated Wingman Day on December 4, in which all Air Force units focus on the physical and psychological well-being of one another.

It is really sad that there are so few general & mental health professionals available for our military personnel. You know what's even sadder, the convicts in State Prisons have a lot more physical, mental, & dental professionals tending to them than our Military. I can't speak for Florida, but this is a fact in Georgia. I have worked in the D.O.C. and seen it first hand. Our VETERANS should be at the top of the list, especially those that served in the earlier wars where not a whole lot of attention was paid to "combat stress" or "technology" for those seriously injured physically. Our priorities just seem reversed to me and I feel that it is time that our Veterans are given more than what they actually get.
