The Hospice of South Georgia presented a lunchtime lecture designed to explain the different ways people deal with grief.
VSU Sociology professor Kathryn Schmidt helped attendees understand how various cultures observe and mourn death.
Health care providers, volunteers and community members attended.
"The world's getting smaller every day," said Leshia Sattler, a hospice nurse who attended the lecture. "People are traveling internationally. Even in Valdosta, Georgia we have a great amount of cultural diversity."
The Hospice of South Georgia also offers bereavement counseling for families for up to a year after a loved one has past.
