Groundbreaking at New Driver's License Building in Thomas County

Tuesday state and county officials held a groundbreaking for a new building that will be more than four times the size of the current one.

Right now the Department of Drivers Services is sharing a building with the Georgia State Patrol. Officials say with the new building things can only get better.

Greg Dozier with the Department of Driver Services said, "Last month we actually hit a record in this area. We hit 99 percent of our customers at 30 minutes or less in the current facility, but we can do better and reach their needs in this new facility."

Last year the DDS served 26,000 customers at the Thomas County office. Officials say they hope to open the new building in early November.
