The Salvation Army says an all time high number of people are asking for help this year and now the charity has a new, high-tech way for you to help them.
Now, some bell ringers will take a credit or debit card, right out at their kettles.
On the very first weekend in northern Oregon, the swiping machines are getting people's attention as they swipe their cards and drop the receipt in the kettle.
The Salvation Army hopes to reach out to those who don't carry cash and to help cover record numbers of requests for help.
And though the kettle may weigh less now, it could hold more impact for the community in these desperate times.
